As being a Child Development tutor, I have gained new knowledge and skills that will be beneficial for me in the future. Both my listening and communication skills have improved over the past few years because of my sessions with the tutees. Some students who come into for tutoring may feel nervous about the Tutoring Center, it is important to make the tutees feel comfortable and welcome. In order to do this, I ask his or her thoughts and opinions of the class, that encourage effective communication from both the tutee and me.

When a new student comes in for tutoring, I introduce myself and then ask his or her name. Oftentimes, I will ask the tutee who their professor and what assignment they are working on.

Also, I would ask them if they understood the concepts they learned in the lecture. I would tell them if they need help with anything, that I am here to help them.

Another important lesson I have learned through my training and experience as a tutor is that each tutee learns the materials differently. For example, for visual learners, the most useful strategies are using highlighters, index cards, using pictures and videos to help them remember the important concepts by having visuals.

I have used various techniques in order to help tutees better learn and understand the lectures. Being adaptable to different learning styles have made an impact to on success as a Child Development tutor.

I tend to keep myself motivated by the desire for more knowledge and self-improvement. It enhances my understanding of the world around me, provides me with more and better opportunities and improves my quality of life.
